Synopsis

Anchor 1

"Detective Brown" is an animated noir drama that follows the Los Angeles PD's most cynical detective as he navigates a city on the brink of change.

When the murder of a single mother lands on his desk, Detective Brown finds himself drawn into a case that hits closer to home than he'd like to admit.

Blending classic noir elements with moments of dark humor, the series explores themes of loss, redemption, and the price of justice in a world where everyone's got something to hide.

Frank Brown

Detective Frank Brown carries his 48 years like a weight.

The other policemen say that he came into this world weary.

In his breast pocket, you'll always find his wife Marie's silver lighter. Marie's been gone five years now, taken by cancer that moved faster than any perp he'd ever chased.

What Brown lacks in conventional polish, he makes up for in instinct. He may not know the answers but he'll find them.

"The city was dark, filled with vagrants and prostitutes. I was on my own. Didn’t know who I could trust.

Why was a mother of two shot in cold blood? Only the walls knew. I loaded my pistol - never knowing if this was the day I didn't come home. "
-Frank Brown

The Journey:

Detective Brown's investigation winds through the corners of 1950s Los Angeles, from the Sunset Strip to Chinatown.

Each location peels back another layer of the city's facade.

This season of the series balances standalone mysteries against the ongoing investigation of the single mother's murder, with each episode adding another piece to the larger puzzle.

A soundtrack of espionage jazz underscores Brown's world-weary internal monologues while our visual style aims to draw deeply from classic film noir.

Episodes

01 - "Dealer in Hope": Detective Frank Brown investigates the murder of Melanie Goodrich, a war widow who was brutally shot in her home, leading to a quick arrest and confession by a suspiciously willing suspect. After seemingly closing the case, Brown discovers a matchbook from Lorenzo's Cabaret and a mysterious appointment in the victim's datebook with someone named "Kovka." His instincts about the confession being too easy are confirmed when he finds an anonymous note in his mailbox warning him that he's got the wrong guy - suggesting a deeper conspiracy that may involve his own department.

02 - "The Study of a Prince": Detective Brown follows up on the Lorenzo's Cabaret lead, discovering the nightclub is a front for money laundering run by the mysterious Kovka. While investigating Melanie Goodrich's connection to the club, he crosses paths with her sister who has arrived from New York, only to find she's not exactly the grieving relative she claims to be. Meanwhile, Sheriff Thompson seems increasingly determined to keep Brown away from pursuing any further investigation into the case, raising questions about who's really pulling the strings at the department. The episode ends with Brown finding Melanie's missing children - but they tell him a story about their mother that changes everything he thought he knew about the case.

03 - "An Upwards Shadow": Brown learns that Melanie Goodrich wasn't just a war widow struggling to make ends meet - she was working as a bookkeeper for Kovka's criminal enterprise, using her legitimate VA pension as cover. When other bookkeepers for the mob start turning up dead around Los Angeles, Brown realizes Melanie was actually gathering evidence against the organization, and her children are now holding the documents that could bring down not only Kovka's operation but also expose a network of corrupt cops. With his own department compromised and Sheriff Thompson openly threatening him to back off, Brown finds an unlikely ally in a jazz singer from Lorenzo's Cabaret who knew Melanie and has her own reasons for wanting to expose the truth about what's happening at the club.

04 - "Gone by Intermission"Brown's investigation is derailed when the jazz singer who was helping him is found dead in her apartment, staged to look like a suicide. The walls close in as Brown discovers Melanie Goodrich's evidence points straight to City Hall, revealing a web of kickbacks and bribes reaching all the way to the Mayor's office. When Brown is framed for the singer's murder and Sheriff Thompson leads the manhunt to arrest him, he's forced to go on the run with Melanie's children, finding refuge in Chinatown with an old war buddy who now runs a laundry business. But even as Brown works to clear his name, he uncovers a shocking truth: Melanie Goodrich's husband isn't actually dead - he faked his death in Korea and has been working as an enforcer for Kovka this entire time.
